Founder's Day

An opportunity to give

We ask for your generous financial support so that we can continue providing great facilities and activities for the boys. Founder’s Day is always our biggest annual fundraiser and there are plentiful opportunities to give at the fete. However, for those who cannot attend, or wish to make an additional donation online, we have retained our JustGiving page.

Founder's Day

Letter from the Headmaster
Founder’s Day, Saturday 18th June

Our first in-person Founder’s Day for three years is upon us! After all the planning and preparation, now it is time to make the most of the occasion and enjoy the celebrations.

Things get off to a musical start tomorrow, Friday, with the livestream of our inter-House Music & The Voice Challenge, available on the QE Music YouTube channel. It’s a highly creative challenge, with each House given an hour to put on a concert in which every piece must feature both music and a vocal element. Do tune in tomorrow and support your chosen House – or Houses, if you are enjoying the performances and feeling generous.

On Founder’s Day itself, following the morning church service, everyone is welcome at the traditional Roll Call and the reading of the School Chronicle. After the pageantry, comes the party! The fete features food and drink for all tastes, fun games and stalls, and entertainment for all ages. Enjoy performances from our jazz bands and from Year 8 dramatists delivering their Shakespeare monologues – fitting, given that the Robert Dudley Studio is our fundraising focus. Continuing that Tudor theme, look out for teachers stuck in the stocks. For those seeking a quiet moment, there’s the annual cricket match involving Old Elizabethans on the back field, with spectators welcome. In short, everyone is invited to come together on Saturday to enjoy a good time, unite as a School community, and support the efforts of the FQE charity. This year’s Founder’s Day includes a special service for those who wish to honour the memory of Eamonn Harris (Headmaster 1984 –1999), one of the most significant figures in QE recent history. Under his leadership the fortunes of the School were much enhanced and the FQE, as we know it today, was born.

My thanks go to all the parents, past and present, and other volunteers who have worked so hard to bring everything together. Founder’s Day is a great celebration, but also an important fundraiser so that we can continue to deliver upon our ambitious plans. By coming to the fete, you are supporting the charity and helping generations of pupils. We are very grateful for all the support that families, friends, OEs, and neighbours provide, large or small. Your help makes a huge difference, enabling us to give the transformational opportunities to young people which would simply not be possible if we relied on our state funding alone.

I look forward to seeing you on Saturday.

Music and The Voice

How you can support Music and The Voice

Last year’s highly successful Pianoathon was a brilliant day of music, so we hope parents will tune in to support this year’s inter-House competition, Music and The Voice, taking place tomorrow, Friday. Underne have already thrown down the gauntlet: they are over halfway to their £1,000 sponsorship target before the event has even taken place, so there is everything to play for! Proceeds will be divided between our planned Robert Dudley Studio and the cost of commissioning a new piece of music from internationally renowned composer Howard Goodall for next year’s QE 450th anniversary celebrations.

To support your favourite House (or Houses), first tune in to the livestream on the QE Music YouTube channel at the following times on Friday 17th June:

9.15am – Broughton
10.15am – Harrisons’
11.15am – Leicester
12.15pm – Pearce
1.45pm – Stapylton
2.45pm – Underne

Then click on the links below to make a donation via the dedicated JustGiving pages. The video and JustGiving pages will remain available beyond Friday, for those unable to join live.

The power of performance: Jay Shetty on the Robert Dudley Studio

If you haven’t already heard global internet star and Old Elizabethan Jay Shetty (1999–2006) explain the importance of QE’s plans for the Robert Dudley Studio, it’s time to watch the video! We are excited to have Jay’s backing and we share his conviction that the new 105-seat drama and spoken word studio will be a powerful addition to the facilities offered by the School. Our dedicated web page tells you more about the project, including who Robert Dudley was and exactly how we will create the new facility.

Written by Dr John Marincowitz (Headmaster 1999-2011), this will be the definitive history of QE.
