An opportunity to give
Whether you can get to the School this Saturday or not, giving via our JustGiving page is one of the easiest ways to help FQE hit its £25,000 target for Founder’s Day 2025 and thus contribute towards the refurbishment of two Biology laboratories here. Founder’s Day is the single largest fundraiser for FQE, a registered charity: the magnificent legacy of recent Founder’s Days includes the completion of The Robert Dudley Studio and provision of the pianos that now grace our music complex. Your backing makes an important difference in enabling us to invest in enhanced opportunities for our pupils. Please support in whatever way you can.
Thank you.

Celebrate with us on Saturday
|
|
|
You are warmly invited to Founder’s Day 2025! Do come along on the day: it’s a wonderful celebration of our Elizabethan community and our place in Barnet for over 452 years.
The day begins with the thanksgiving service at the Parish Church. (Space is limited, but please do register below if you are among the groups, including alumni, who qualify for a seat.) Then there’s a return to the School for the Roll Call and Reading of the School Chronicle.
One o’clock sees the start of the FQE fete on Stapylton Field in front of Main Building. Always a popular, colourful event, it’s open to all, including current and incoming boys and their families, Old Elizabethans, former staff and parents, and local residents – the more, the merrier!
Look out for a detailed programme, site map and some special features in our 44-page printed fete programme, available on the day.
The FQE fete committee would like some last-minute donations of items – scroll down for details.
We’ve been pleased to see more Old Elizabethans turning out on Founder’s Day, and we have again organised a buffet lunch for alumni – details below.
Founder’s Day is a highlight of our School year. And with the economic climate remaining challenging, its fundraising element is more important than ever in ensuring our School keeps moving ahead. We want to keep on improving the life chances of boys from all backgrounds, providing fantastic facilities as a state school and offering places purely on academic merit.
All proceeds from our fundraising appeal this year will go towards the refurbishment of two Biology laboratories: the project will help ensure that QE continues to offer a superb educational environment for all our pupils.
So whether you are planning to come on Saturday, or you are unable to make it, please do make a financial contribution.
Thank you so much for all your support – and I look forward to seeing as many as possible here on Saturday.
Mr Neil Enright
Headmaster

Backing our biologists with lab refurbishments
With The Robert Dudley Studio now fully completed – thanks in no small part to donations from Founder’s Day 2024 – funds raised at this year’s event will mainly be going to the much-needed refurbishment of two Biology laboratories. Through our new Estates Strategy, we are committed to working towards creating the best learning environment within and beyond the classroom. The continued growth in A-level sciences over recent years has created increased demands on subject-specific laboratories: the refurbishment will help us to meet this demand and to bridge the gap to higher education. The photo shows the results of the successful refurbishment of two Chemistry laboratories in 2023 – another project realised thanks to the extensive support of alumni and parents through FQE.

Lunch for the alumni: our invitation
All Old Elizabethans are welcome at a Founder’s Day buffet lunch on Saturday. Our 2015 School Captain, Norbert Sobolak (2009–2016) will be there: he is also our guest speaker at the Founder’s Day thanksgiving service in the morning. Norbert recently co-founded a startup focused on using AI agents to support data analytics. Enjoy the lunch – just make sure you leave a little room to sample the fantastic food stalls at the fete in the afternoon!
The OE lunch is at 1pm on Saturday in the Main School Hall – no need to book, just turn up.

Fundraising in safe hands?
New for this year is a PE department Founder’s Day fundraiser – the House Catching Competition. Years 7–10 are showing off their catching skills in PE lessons, with a grand final on Friday lunchtime. The event will be used to raise money towards sports equipment.

Buy a bassoon: support House Music around the World!
The Music department is raising money to buy a new bassoon in its annual Founder’s Day fundraiser, this year based around the theme of House Music around the World. Our Director of Music, Ruth Partington, says: “Currently no pupils at QE learn the bassoon and we often miss the role it plays in ensembles – help us fill the gap!” Each form must present a mini-concert (eight minutes maximum) this Friday, 20th June. Anyone with access to eQE can view more details here. The event will be live-streamed to YouTube.
