From the Headmaster
“A unique and unashamed meritocracy in which clever, hard-working boys who like a challenge will thrive.”
The Good Schools Guide’s glowing appraisal – and first call for Founder’s Day!
I am happy to announce that the latest Good Schools Guide (GSG) report gives a highly favourable assessment of our School.
Widely respected, the guide seeks out schools, state or fee-paying, that consistently do their very best for pupils, looking at all aspects of provision, including academic, pastoral care and co-curricular activities.
It is thus another important independent view of the School, complementing other third-party assessments, such as those of Ofsted.
As ever, my congratulations go to governors, colleagues, parents, pupils and alumni – anyone, in fact, who plays a part in making sure that QE delivers a state school experience like no other.
The GSG report is available in full on our website.
Here are just a few of the many choice quotations!
• Boys are encouraged to be ambitious in their own learning, to go on a voyage of discovery – ‘confidently, independently, collaboratively’. The same could be said for teachers who, parents say, are ‘outstandingly good, stretching and challenging boys at every turn’.
• The bond between student/teacher/parent is strong;
• A traditional, well-organised state school, where all expectations are high. Elizabethans feel secure in their own scholarship – to question, challenge and probe. They want to succeed, and tend to reach the upper branches of whichever tree they climb;
• For those who encounter bumps along the way, help is at hand through form tutors, tutorials, peer mentoring and a part-time counsellor.
• Everything, inside and out, is spick and span; no signs of wear and tear wrought by 1,300 teenage boys.
This glowing GSG assessment is testament to the strength and support of the Elizabethan community. My thanks go to the boys, parents and staff who spoke to the reviewer.
