An opportunity to give
Whether you can make it to Barnet on Founder’s Day or not, donating via our JustGiving page is one of the easiest ways of helping FQE hit its £25,000 target for Founder’s Day 2023. Founder’s Day is the single largest annual fundraising event for FQE, a registered charity that has helped transform the School campus and the educational opportunities on offer. We are all privileged to be part of the Elizabethan community; please give what you can and help secure a great legacy from this special Founder’s Day.
Thank you.

Thriving from ancient roots: celebrate Founder’s Day with us on Saturday
|
|
|
We are now in the final countdown to our 450th Anniversary Founder’s Day this Saturday 17th June. I do hope you will come along and make the most of this very special day.
You can get in the swing of things tomorrow, Friday, by tuning in to the live-stream of our concerts challenge. Scroll down to support your favourite House.
Founder’s Day itself is a celebration of all that is best about the School, with tradition, creativity and sheer fun all to the fore. Current and past QE families, alumni and friends, including our neighbours from the Barnet community, are all welcome. Founder’s Day 2022 saw some people back at QE for the first time in years: what better opportunity than our 450th Anniversary for more happy reunions!
Our very full programme includes special events, such as a procession headed by our new School banner and the burying of a 450th Anniversary time capsule. The afternoon brings the hugely popular fete, while cricket fans can head to Third Field for the Stanley Busby Memorial Match, where our First XI take on an alumni team. Times and venues are listed here, together with a fete site map. Our 56-page colour fete brochure, available on the day, includes the programme and map, as well as special 450th anniversary features, parents’ recipes and much more besides.
Founder’s Day is FQE’s biggest annual fundraising event, and FQE has raised its 2023 target to £25,000. Your support is crucial if we are to continue providing the fantastic QE state school experience – one that is at least a match for exclusive independent schools charging very high fees – to boys from all backgrounds solely on academic merit. Please help us hit the target thus boosting social mobility and supporting QE’s next 450 years!
Thank you for all your support – and I look forward to seeing you on Saturday.
Mr Neil Enright
Headmaster

Planning your day
OPEN TO ALL:
Everyone is welcome at The Roll Call, Time Capsule burial, archival exhibition and, of course, the FQE fete, with no booking required. Spectators are also very welcome at the cricket.
ADMISSION REQUIRING RSVP:
Among the special Founder’s Day events is a presentation & lunch for Chairman of Governors Barrie Martin, who retires this year. This is open to OEs, former staff and other guests: to reserve a place please complete the RSVP form. Our thanksgiving church service in the morning is now largely full, but Old Elizabethans, former staff and other friends of the School may enquire about remaining places through our RSVP form. For current pupils and parents, the service is by invitation only.

Our pitch for OE players
We would still love to hear from any alumni who wish to play in the Stanley Busby Memorial Cricket Match. This relaxed Founder’s Day afternoon fixture on Third Field sees old boys take on the current School XI. It is named after a late QE parent and governor (1989-2011).

6 Houses, 24 concerts, 450 years: it’s the Anniversary House Music Challenge!
The Music Department’s annual eve-of-Founder’s Day fundraiser takes place tomorrow. An inter-House challenge for Years 7–10, it offers prizes galore for participating soloists and ensembles, with every form challenged to give an eight-minute (maximum) concert linked in some way to the 450th anniversary. For the rest of us, the challenge provides an opportunity to watch the live-stream of the concerts starting at 8:50am. Then please sponsor your favourite House(s) via the JustGiving links below.
Thanks to the generosity of parents, alumni and others, QE’s musicians now enjoy fantastic facilities in our new Friends’ Recital Hall and Music Rooms. Please support them as they give back to pay forward by raising funds for our next project, The Robert Dudley Studio.

Our Royal Charter: see it for yourself
QE’s precious original 1573 Royal Charter, the pride of our archive, is rarely seen, but will be on display at our Founder’s Day pop-up QE Collections mini-exhibition, along with other selected archival items. There is also the opportunity to purchase Queen Elizabeth’s School: 1573–2023 – former Headmaster Dr John Marincowitz’s new, definitive history of the School. Furthermore, you can meet the author and get him to sign your copy: John will be signing copies of his book from 2pm to 2.45pm as part of the exhibition and is looking forward to meeting people there. On the other hand, if you cannot get to Founder’s Day this year, you can buy a copy of the book online – and find out more about the QE Charter in the interactive guide at the foot of the QE Collections home page.
