The Friends of Queen Elizabeth’s – FQE, or just ‘the Friends’ – is a registered charity which exists solely to support the School and its pupils.
Founded in 1966, it has a fantastic track record. In fact, over several decades, FQE has been at the heart of major capital projects which have transformed the campus into a superb learning environment that is the envy not only of other schools in the state sector, but of many leading fee-paying schools catering for the privileged.
As you would expect with a charity handling large amounts of donated money from pupils’ families, alumni and other supporters of the School, FQE is professionally and strategically run. Its directors are highly experienced and well regarded in their professional fields. In determining how to spend the charity’s money, they make decisions that are judicious, yet are characterised by the boldness necessary to keep the School moving forward and to support QE’s ambitious plans for the future.
To see the wonderful difference FQE has made, you need only take a walk around our campus. Thanks to the strategic support of the charity and to the generosity of our supporters, we have high-quality facilities that greatly enhance the educational experience here at QE.
Neil Enright, Headmaster
Importantly, alongside FQE’s involvement in large building projects, there is ongoing support for our boys in other ways, too: the charity meets the costs of minibuses used for School activities such as sports fixtures, for example. Moreover, FQE is itself an important constituent in our Elizabethan community. Its charitable fundraising harnesses the goodwill of countless volunteers – including parents past and present – while FQE representatives play an important role annually by helping the School welcome new Year 7 families into the fold.
You can read more here about the work of the Executive Committee, who co-ordinate the social aspect of the charity and many of its community fundraising activities.
The Headmaster and Governors are acutely conscious that it is only through the generosity of parents, alumni and other supporters of the School that FQE is able to achieve so much. We are deeply grateful.
