The Digital Fund
The Digital Fund supports QE Collections, which makes a variety of historic material freely available to all.
Queen Elizabeth’s School has been part of the Barnet community since its foundation in 1573 by royal charter. QE Collections holds a variety of historic material relating to the School and the local area. We want this heritage to be accessible to everyone, so we make digitised material available online free-of-charge for all to enjoy.
Contributions to the Digital Fund allow us to digitise more of our heritage while also ensuring the long-term preservation and accessibility of this historical material.
QE Collections was conceived and developed with help and guidance from colleagues at Wellcome Collection, Glasgow School of Art, University of Strathclyde, University of Westminster, Barnet Museum, Barnet Archives, Hertfordshire Archives, as well as a number of school archives. The project has received written support from Barnet Museum, Barnet Archives and Local Studies, Hertfordshire Archives and Local Studies, Deputy Lieutenant of Greater London Martin Russell, and Theresa Villiers MP.
The Digital Fund was started by Richard Newton (OE 1956–1964). Richard believed that historically significant material in the School’s collections must be preserved and made accessible to all. He understood historical significance as extending not only to the School’s public history but also to the experiences of pupils, staff, and others who have interacted with the School during its existence. Ordinary life is as important as extraordinary events. Richard’s vision continues to guide us.Â
